The new owners of downtown NASHVILLE's storied ERNEST TUBB RECORD SHOP are planning to add a honky-tonk and rooftop space, in addition to restoring the building's facade to its original look from the 1850s. As previously reported, those new owners include in-demand NASHVILLE studio musician ILYA TOSHINSKIY, who was part of a group that purchased the record store's assets last summer for $18.3 million, including the historic lower BROADWAY building that has housed it since 1951 (NET NEWS 8/1/22).
Now, the NASHVILLE BUSINESS JOURNAL is reporting that another of the shop's new owners signed for an $18.75 million construction loan for the property. When complete, the newspaper reports, "the record shop and merchandise will occupy one floor, a honky-tonk with a mezzanine will occupy another floor, and there will be a private third floor with a use that hasn’t been determined yet."
The store was founded by Country music legend ERNEST TUBB in 1947, and moved to the Broadway site four years later.
