In CANADA, the CRTC has denied two applications for new FM transmitters in VANCOUVER for CORUS News-Talk CKNW-A/NEW WESTMINSTER-VANCOUVER and FOUR SENSES ENTERTAINMENT Triple A CKEE (101.5 WHISTLER FM)/WHISTLER.  CKNW sought a nested transmitter at 99.7 FM with 6,000 watts at 75.4 meters, while CKEE looked to put a transmitter at 99.9 FM in NORTH VANCOUVER with 450 watts at 57 meters.  CKEE's application was rejected as not necessary and not the best use of limited VANCOUVER FM allocations; CKNW asserted signal problems in downtown VANCOUVER necessitated an FM repeater, an argument with which the CRTC agreed, but the application was rejected because it was "greater than what is necessary to mitigate interference," because CORUS has not explored alternatives, and because it would establish an additional FM for CORUS in the market for which a waiver would not be appropriate.
