iHEARTMEDIA's subsidiary, iHEARTCOMMUNICATIONS, INC., has closed on its voluntary prepayment of $250 million of its $2,075 million Term Loan and its $447 million Incremental Term Loan with cash on hand, and the concurrently repricing of the Incremental Term Loan at LIBOR + 3.25%.
Of that amount, $206 million went towards the prepayment of the Term Loan and $44 million was put towards the Incremental Term Loan. The move reduced the interest rate on the remaining $402 million balance of the Incremental Term Loan by 100 basis points, including 25 basis points from the LIBOR floor reduction. iHEARTMEDIA says that it will save about $13 million in interest yearly.
Doug Morris' 12Tone Music Sold
WARNER MUSIC GROUP (WMG) and 12TONE MUSIC have finalized a deal with WMG buying the assets of 12TONE MUSIC, founded in 2018 by veteran record industry executive, DOUG MORRIS.
12TONE's roster and catalog includes AFTERMATH's ANDERSON .PAAK, the 88RISING collective (featuring JOJI), CENTRICITY's LAUREN DAIGLE, producer/artist ILLENIUM and DOLLY PARTON. MORRIS will continue to be active in the day-to-day business of 12TONE and its artists.

FCC Proposes Fining Utah FM For Late License Renewal Application, Reaches Consent Decrees With Two Licensees Settling Public File Violations

The FCC is proposing a $3,000 fine against REDROCK BROADCASTING, INC.for a late license renewal application for Country KUTQ (102.3 COYOTE COUNTRY)/LA VERKIN, UT. The station missed its JUNE 1, 2019 deadline to file, ultimately submitting the application on SEPTEMBER 22, 2020, and said that its failure to file for over a year past the deadline was "an oversight."
The Commission also reached two Consent Decrees with radio licensees settling online public file violations. The licensees, FLOOD BROADCASTING, INC. (Country KBIE (B103)/AUBURN, NE and Classic Country KNCY-A (OTOE COUNTY COUNTRY)/NEBRASKA CITY, NE) and FIRST REPUBLIC BROADCASTING CORPORATION (Country KREP (KR-92)/BELLEVILLE, KS) agreed to implement compliance plans but are not being fined.
COX COMMUNICATIONS Pres./CEO PATRICK J. ESSER will retire, effective DECEMBER 31st, after leading the company for 15 years. ESSER will be succeeded by EVP/Chief Sales and Marketing Officer MARK GREATREX, who will be named President.

The fellows chosen for the COLUMBIA JOURNALISM SCHOOL's 2021-22 SULZBERGER EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM include four from the radio industry.

AGUILAR's project under the fellowship is an audience research and development plan for BIPOC and diverse communities served by public media. BROWN will develop new editorial products to grow a younger and more diverse audience. HAMANO plans to develop digital strategies for audience mobilization; PAMINTUAN's project is the revamping of public media business models on a more collaborative basis.

A new podcast network is being funded by subscription newsletter platform SUBSTACK, reports AXIOS, which says that former WNYC STUDIOS "ON THE MEDIA" producer MICHAEL VUOLO and NPR contributor MATTHEW SCHWARTZ's BOOKSMART STUDIOS is launching with both free podcasts distributed via RSS through all podcast apps and by paid subscription with special perks including extra content, merchandise, and custom video and voice messages.
The network is launching with five new podcasts, the first three including "BANISHED" with AMNA KHALIID, "LEXICON VALLEY" with JOHN MCWHORTER, and "BULLY PULPIT" with former "ON THE MEDIA" co-host BOB GARFIELD, all coming this month, and "THE DIRECTION IS SOUND" with CHRIS MANDRA and "UNPRECEDENTED" with VUOLO and SCHWARTZ coming later in the SUMMER. AXIOS says that SUBSTACK's investment is in the form of a a six-figure advance and SUBSTACK will take 10% of revenues after the advance expires at the end of the first year.
SUBSTACK already offers users an audio tool to record, upload, and distribute podcasts through its platform.
Q2 And H1 Results
Revenue and EBITDA both grew for AUDIOBOOM in second quarter and first half 2021, with U.S. revenue up 144% year-over-year for the quarter to $13.3 million and up 93% for the half to $22.8 million, both records for the company. Adjusted EBITDA went from a loss of $1.2 million for the half year 2020 to a profit of $200,000. Group loss narrowed for the half from $2 million to $460,000. As for global average monthly downloads, second quarter 2021's figure was up 25% to 92.1 million.

The launch includes the new TM NEXT updating jingle service, TM PRODUCTION MUSIC for spot and promo production, and TM COMMERCIAL, a bank of retail jingles for stations to sell to local advertisers.

KANYE WEST will hold what he's calling "a listening event" for his new album, "Donda," named after his late mom, at MERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM in ATLANTA on THURSDAY, JULY 22nd. Recent news reports had KANYE playing the new release to friends and influencers, including NBA star KEVIN DURANT. LIVE NATION and G.O.O.D. MUSIC’s PUSHA T took to INSTAGRAM to announce the event.
"Donda" is KANYE's long-anticipated follow-up to "Jesus Is King," which was released OCTOBER 2019. Originally titled "God’s Country." YEEZY changed the name to "Donda" (or "Donda: With Child")

Former JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY News-Talk WMRA/HARRISONBURG, VA host/reporter/producer MARTHA WOODROOF died SUNDAY (7/18) of cancer at 74.
WOODROOF joined WMRA in 2000 and hosted "THE SPARK" in 2010-16 along with reporting and producing, and freelanced for NPR; she retired in 2016. She was also a writer, publishing the novel "Small Blessings" in 2014.
The mother of singer/Reality TV personality KEYSHIA COLE, FRANKIE LONS, died on SUNDAY (7/18) from a reported drug overdose. The 61-year-old played a major role in COLE’s various reality TV shows.
She had battled with addiction problems for many years. Based on all reports, she passed away on her birthday in her OAKLAND, CA home.
One of her other children, ELITE NOEL, confirmed the news on her INSTAGRAM and TWITTER pages and wrote, “Worse pain ever … to see my mama in a body bag on her birthday!”
LONS had a featured role in four of COLE's BET series; KEYSHIA COLE: THE WAY IT IS, KEYSHIA & DANIEL: FAMILY FIRST, KEYSHIA COLE: ALL IN, and KEYSHIA COLE: MY NEW LIFE. Her mother also had a 2009 spin off series of her own, FRANKIE & NEFFE, which she starred in with her daughter, NEFFETERIA PUGH.
LONS always talked openly about her struggles over the years with maintaining sobriety and her dependency on drugs and alcohol.
